Travel Purpose: leisure

Positive: The aesthetic was lovely & staff were friendly and spoke good English. Rooms were a good size(bathroom tiny though). Easy walking access to the river and bridge towards the town, great coffee spots around & upscale supermarket around the corner.

Negative: I’ve stayed in many wonderful family owned guesthouses & usually enjoy them but I felt the design wasn’t ideal - rooms have a large window facing into the central area- sound echos and travels, you hear when people get in late, are on the phone in the middle of the night, chatting around the pool, banging their suitcases of the steps etc. My first room was on the ground floor & particularly exposed to this- it was also very dark- you needed the lights on during the day even with the curtains fully open- but you can’t have the curtains open as there’s no privacy- I don’t know why they don’t use sheer curtains like everywhere else. I moved rooms to the 3rd floor which was better for sound but it was unrenovated & had a smelly bathroom which I tolerated for the natural light & less disturbance. Bathrooms were tiny & the water went everywhere. I asked for a bedside lamp as my new room had none (my first room had 2)- I never got it. I had moved from a hotel near Nimman which was only slightly more expensive but I rated a 10/10 so this experience felt disappointing to an otherwise great stay in Chiang Mai- my first hotel in the old town was also wonderful.

Summary: Well presented guesthouse but impractical & better value elsewhere.
